The Melbury Metabolic Clinic

Many of the major illnesses that face us today have their origin in disturbances in our metabolism, or at the very least they are made worse by metabolic problems. Illnesses such as:

  • Obesity
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver
  • Neuropathy
  • Some mental health problems
  • Some cancers

The old theory of “calories in, calories out" does not help us explain our current obesity epidemic and it has failed to provide successful dietary solutions. The old advice to "eat less and exercise more" fails to provide healthy sustained weight loss. And traditional advice on "portion control, weight management and eating starchy carbohydrates with every meal" often does not help type 2 diabetics, many of whom see their illness as chronic and progressive with a relentless deterioration towards more medication and eventually the prospect of insulin injections. Furthermore, despite the fact that most of us are eating quantities of food far in excess of our energy requirements, many of us still have nutritional deficiencies such as vitamin D and other vitamins, minerals such as magnesium and deficiencies of essential fats such as omega 3.

The Melbury Metabolic Clinic offers an assessment of the common metabolic disturbances:

  • Glucose metabolism
  • Pre-diabetes
  • Diabetes
  • Insulin Resistance
  • Abnormal Liver Function
  • Vitamin D Deficiency
  • Magnesium Deficiency
  • Omega 3 Deficiency
  • Level of Inflammation

We offer patient-centred, individualised assessments to help you on correct any metabolic disturbances that you may have in order help you lose weight, avoid or control diabetes, and to reduce or eliminate blood pressure medication. You can feel better and function better once your metabolism is in balance.
